Emmanuel P November 22, 2012

Mercedes is proudly announcing the release of the GL seven-seat SUV. Alternatively called by some as an all-terrain S-Class, the GL offers new levels of luxury and sophistication in a popular – and competitive – niche.

The base model is the GL350 BlueTEC 4MATIC, powered by a 258 horsepower diesel engine boasting of fuel consumption of only 7.4 liters per hundred kilometers. The GL500, on the other hand, boasts of a V8 with 435 horsepower that consumes a comparatively paltry 11.3 liters per hundred kilometers. Then there is the GL63 twin turbo AMG model, which offers almost 560 horsepower. Mind you, both the GL500 and GL63 also have 4MATIC drivetrains, so these beasts allow you to go practically anywhere in the lap of luxury. The GL 4MATIC system features a specially designed transfer case to allow permanent all-wheel drive, distributing drive to the front and rear axles at a ratio of 40:60. With AMG RIDE CONTROL  you have both a sports suspension and an AIRMATIC air suspension package offering active damping and roll stabilisation.

Other luxury appointments for the GL include comfort details such as an electric sliding sunroof, electrically operated EASY-PACK tailgate, EASY ENTRY system for convenient access to the third row of seats from both sides, high-dampening acoustic windscreen and electromechanical steering. The gauge cluster also comes standard with  a color screen with photo-realistic display. Additionally, the GL 500 4MATIC BlueEFFICIENCY also offers Active Parking Assist with PARKTRONIC, the Intelligent Light System, the KEYLESS-GO access and drive authorisation system, 3-zone THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control, and multicontour leather seats for driver and front passenger with a massage function.
