Mercedes-Benz and the Winner of Wimbledon 2012, Roger Federer

Ryan Joseph Ramos July 8, 2012

Roger Federer has just secured his seventh Wimbledon title, running through Andy Murray to tie a record held by Pete Sampras and showing that the 30-year-old still has what it takes to be on top of the Tennis world (he’s up for the number one ranking after the win). It brings to mind this recent behind-the-scenes video of Federer’s new Mercedes-Benz commercial for the 2013 GL-Class.

Federer, being arguably the top star in his sport, also rakes in a ton of revenue from endorsements. He was fourth in the world among Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes last year, having deals with Nike, Rolex, and of course Mercedes-Benz. His deal with Mercedes-Benz used to be for China only, but the automaker has recently changed that arrangement so that they could have Federer on global campaigns.

And with this recent resurgence, particularly the Wimbledon win, it looks like the deal’s paying off. Putting top personalities and top brands together always makes for a winning combination in marketing. What’s more, the demographic for tennis fans is well-suited for the market of Mercedes-Benz, and the sport has always been one of the most global ones.

Mercedes-Benz has also partnered with the US Open, presenting the Men’s championship and having the distinction of being the Major Tournament’s official vehicle.

Anyway, enjoy the video above. It shows an interesting side of Roger Federer as he goes through the shoot for the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL commercial.
