Mercedes Axes Maybach Brand

With chairman Dieter Zetsche’s recent decision to stop development of the replacement models for the Maybach 57 and 62, the writing was on the wall for this historical brand which represented the ultimate luxury vehicle only the very rich could afford. In its golden days, a Maybach was the carriage that ferried princes, statesmen and captains of industry on their forays. The German manufacturer must have had high hopes for this ultra-luxury brand, but this did not turn out to be the case. With dismal sales and internal studies which found that an upmarket Mercedes S-Class could better bring the fight to the Maybach’s rivals, the decision to axe the… Continue Reading »

Ice Sheet Doesn’t Faze Mercedes G-Class Driver

Here’s a reason why the G-Class has such credibility as an off-roader and all around vehicle. Shot in winter weather in Poland, it shows this 240G doing extra duty as an icebreaker. Encountering a road that’s turned into a slurry mixture combined with a section of sheet ice, the driver of this G-Class doesn’t turn back but actually attacks the obstacle with gusto. And as the video title confirms, this G-Class’ engine is a diesel, which in terms of power is pretty low in the range of available powerplants but nevertheless provides enough torque to move the vehicle forward in terrain such as this. While the video is jerky and… Continue Reading »

Mercedes A-Class To Share Platform With Infiniti Etherea

While Nissan showed an Infiniti Etherea in concept form that impressed the crowd at the 2011 Geneva show, not much detail could be gleaned from the pretty concept car. Now, it’s been revealed that the Etherea is going to be built on a platform that will be shared with Mercedes’ upcoming A-Class. The new MFA platform is a front-wheel drive one, which means that the Etherea compact will be such.  In line with worldwide trends, expect hybrid and diesel powerplants to be included with the gasoline engine variants. Infiniti EVP Andy Palmer says that they went to Mercedes for the MFA platform because as a luxury brand, they need “much… Continue Reading »

The already mean machine, has become meaner, thus, Wimmer RS put in a KW coilover suspension, a 19-inch alloy rims and MOV’IT brakes made of ceramics. All that inside the blue and green body, which made the car more interesting and well, made it an eye candy. Wimmer RS’ blue green monster is set to be showcased in Essen.

Vath Mercedes SLK Tuning Kit Released

Although the 2012 SLK is already a pretty nice car as it is, a little bit more is much better, when it comes to upgrades. In this vein, Vath has released its bodykit, performance and interior upgrade lines for the car. As you can see, the body mods include a new front lip and rear diffuser tied together by a lowered suspension riding on 20-inch wheels.  Interior upgrades aren’t as dramatic, with just some carbon fiber trim, new floor mats and aluminum pedals. But the replacement speedometer hints at what the Vath-massaged SLK can offer the driver, as the upper reaches of the 205 mile per hour speedometer can be… Continue Reading »
