Despite being a seemingly evergreen model, the SL-Class, with its flagship SL600 and SL65 Black Series variants, seems to be finally on its last legs. These models, last facelifted in 2008, are having their V12-engined variants being pulled from the market. Beginning with the SL600 and recently the SL65 AMG, it appears that the only remaining V12 SL will be the fixed-rood, and hardcore, SL65 AMG Black Series. But if the previous phaseouts are any indication, this V12 hellion will also disappear soon enough.
But all this phasing out may be the harbinger of blessings in the form of the arrival of the next-gen SL. Expected in 2013, the SL, bucking decades-old trends, may actually be lighter than the current generation. And despite the disppearance of the V12, the new biturbo V8s which will make an appearance in this class are certainly no slouches.
