Mercedes-Benz Engines in Production at the Kolleda Plant

Since Friday, M270 petrol engine for the future A and B Class started rolling in the Mercedes-Benz Plant in Thuringia.

The 1.6L engine that will be produced in the Kolleda, Thrungia plant, will be made of aluminum and it weighs 137 kg, the B-class will be the ones carrying this engine. Another engine to be built is the OM 651 for the A and B class. Meanwhile, the diesel engines will be prefabricated in Stuttgart, the Kolleda plant will be in charged of the final assembly. The plant has been producing 4 cylinder gasoline engines since summer, for this, the company added an additional 14,000 sqm of space by investing €100M.

  1. would not buy a Mercedes with an engine not built in Germany. Than I could buy a Volkswagen too.
