As part of a revival in seemingly abandoned body styles, Mercedes-Benz Chairman Dieter Zetsche has approved another body variant in the mold of a shooting brake. This second variant will accompany the CLS shooting brake and is based on the also new and upcoming CLC, a model based on the new platform that will form the basis for the revised A-Class and B-Class models.
Unlike the CLS, the CLC Shooting Brake will feature a heavily angled tailgate, but will be far from the vertical looks of Mercedes estates. Expected powertrains will be the fours currently under development, with the gasoline variants featuring direct injection. Mated to the automatic transmissions will be standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive. Since the CLS Shooting Brake will be based on a smaller platform, also expect a smaller price tag compared to the CLS. No other details have been released, but what is obvious is that Mercedes is serious in capturing the leadership in this segment of the market because of its bold strokes in reviving forgotten body styles.
