Mercedes Benz’s Black Series cars have been the inspiration for numerous tuners since its introduction in 2008 and the Black Series SL65 AMG is no exception. With its carbon fiber roof, body enhancements, upgraded V12 and numerous other performance and styling mods, the Black Series SL65 AMG is a distinct example of how a luxury coupe can be made to perform like a light, high-performance sports car.
One variant of the SL65 that wasn’t produced in Black Series form was the SL65 convertible, and here, German tuner Inden steps in to fill the gap. Starting with a wide body kit that fortifies the haunches of the SL65, the kit goes on to replace the front and rear bumpers, trunk spoiler and side skirts. A hood with twin air vents and blacked-out grill complete the physical transformation. 20-inch wheels with 265/30 front tires and 325/25 rears fill out the wheel arches and complete the decidedly aggressive stance. An Alcantara flat-bottom steering wheel is the only significant interior change, with the same material covering a portion of the instrument panel. Inden then proceeded to remap the SL65’s biturbo V12 to get 680 horsepower from the previous 612. While doing so, the tuner also removed the electronic speed limiter. Suspension height can be lowered 45mm through electronic means and a different exhaust gives the upgraded engine the throaty rumble to match its new looks.
