With the unveiling of the C-Class coupe at the Geneva Auto Show, the way forward for tuners and enthusiasts alike has become clearer. Knowing the quirks of the powerful 6.3 V8 will allow the installation of proven mods to this finely-engineered performance mill. First at the gate is of course AMG, which has the benefit of in-house knowledge in deciding the performance package for the C-Class coupe that will bear its prestigious name.
Mercedes was wise in selecting the 6.3-liter powerplant for the coupe, as this is already what is installed in the C-Class saloon, together with the 7-speed MCT transmission. To differentiate the AMG version from its normal siblings, the C-Class AMG will feature fender flares, a front fascia that has been revised to be more aggressive-looking, a rear diffuser, trunklid spoiler made from carbon fiber, larger custom wheels, stickier tires, sport suspension and uprated brakes. If 450 horsepower is somewhat lacking, the AMG Performance Package will bump output to 480+ horsepower via additional work done to the engine’s internal components. Watch for this hot C-Class variant at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
