Mercedes-Benz’s embrace of technology is not limited to its luxury cars but extends to all aspects of its products and services. In the past months, it has released several applications for smartphones for use by its various customers. The newest release is called FleetBoard, a telematics system for fleet management and operations and it is available for the iPhone and iPad. Telematics technology integrates the Global Positioning System, computers and mobile communications technology with automotive navigation systems to help track and analyze vehicle fleet movements and logistics.

Using FleetBoard, owners of any vehicle fleet can monitor routes, schedules and any other information that will help to make trips more efficient in terms of time and fuel. Mercedes claims a 7 percent improvement in fuel and service costs in the first month alone. Additionally, FleetBoard can send text messages to announce schedule changes, new or additional taskings and monitor driver behavior and route detours as well.

Daimler FleetBoard general manager Markus Lipinsky states that “FleetBoard provides even more transparency and an additional fleet management tool for increased productivity throughout the vehicle fleet. It is an ergonomic compilation of the most important information from our vehicle and logistics service.”
