After they were replaced (and were quite expensive) I did a complete search of the Internet and was able to find what are called Side Mirror Guards for this model (called a C203 in India) and for other models and cars as well/

This is evidently a problem there in parking lots, especially with models where you can just pop out the mirror without a lot of force and damage to the mirror cover. I managed to contact the company and to get the guards and install them. They are made of steel, look good and seem to work.
