The complete competition version of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in now ready to order for race teams for the forthcoming 2011 season. Mercedes-Benz will begin delivering the GT3-class race cars starting February next year, which gives enough time for the teams to accomplish their individual pre-season testing.
The GT3 Class for production-based sports cars are getting outstanding raves together with its competitors Audi, BMW and Porsche. The American Le Mans Series has joined the GT3 arena this year also with the GT Challenge class. Presently, the GT Challenge is still limited to Porsche 911s but with hope, it will be available to other GT3 competitors.
AMG and HWA AG are establishing and manufacturing the SLS GT3, track testing started last June with long-time Mercedes-Benz DTM and GT driver Bernd Schnieder taking the wheel. Before deliveries to clients begin, the SLS will join a few VLN endurance series races at the Nürburgring Nordschleife towards the end of this year. The SLS AMG GT3 has a price-tag of €334,000 before value added taxes (around $430,000).
