Having the chance to work with prestigious car manufacturers, like Mercedes-Benz, has its perks. And of the greatest benefits of such partnerships is clinching the biggest deal ever made by your company in its entire history. And that is exactly the case with Michigan-based TI Automotive, which specializes in fuel delivery and fuel containment systems. Effective immediately, TI Automotive is to be the global supplier of high-quality fuel tank systems for Mercedes-Benz’s large-volume models.

The contract entails the company to supply Mercedes-Benz with 7 types of plastic fuel tanks, fuel filler pipes and fuel lines from locations all around the globe, whichever is closest to Mercedes-Benz’s multiple global offices. These would include not only the manufacturing plants in Europe, namely Germany, but on other continents as well.

Of course, on such a global business scale, TI Automotive has to comply with different quality and emissions standards, including Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV), Low-Emissions Vehicle III (LEV III) and Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) covering gasoline, diesel, hybrid and flex-fuel applications.

Mercedes-Benz chose TI Automotive for the company’s reputation for setting high quality standards for plastic fuel tank and emissions technology. They won the 2009 Automotive News PACE Award with their Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (PZEV) plastic fuel tank. The manufacturing process involves putting in place all internal components into the fuel tank before actual molding begins. Their method ensures zero fuel vapor emissions for outstanding performance and durability.

Dual clutch transmission system for Mercedes-Benz Trucks launched

There’ve been a lot of critics of dual clutch transmission systems. Purists prefer the mechanical feel of a manual transmission, but you can’t deny that dual clutch transmission systems have come a long way from the prehistoric automatic transmission system. And now, it’s being incorporated in Mercedes-Benz trucks, ushering in a new era of fuel efficiency and emissions control.

First of all, it eliminates the problematic torque converter that is present in an automatic transmission systems. Secondly, in fully-automatic mode, shifting times are effectively cut down to inhuman figures. No professional racing driver would ever outshift a dual clutch transmission system in terms of shift times. And third is the benefit of being able to shift ‘manually’, albeit not having a clutch pedal to work with.

It was Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler AG actually that first introduced a dual clutch system in the Fuso. Now, Mercedes-Benz truck clients can expect greater comfort for their drivers, as well as improved driving stability with power flowing non-stop to the drive wheels.

Mercedes-Benz calls their dual clutch system the Duonic transmission (M038S6). It boasts of six forward gears plus one in reverse. The system uses oil-bathed double clutches to improve smoothness and durability. Apart from the standard Parking gear mode, the Duonic system features a Creep function—a gear mode that facilitates slow parking maneuvers to aid safety for both the driver, the vehicle and pedestrians.

It’s all in the name of sales. Mercedes-Benz in India is determined to stay ahead of the pack, and its plan of action is introduce even more models into their showrooms to attract more clients. They’re also planning on having 2nd shifts and maintain brand spending to get a bigger share of an already expanding Indian market. Analysts forecast around 50 percent of market growth this year.

The company based in India also expects parent company Daimler AG to fund a project to sell first and second hand Mercedes-Benz models. The region has plenty of potential customers looking to own their first premium vehicle but can’t afford the entry-level price tags of brand new cars. Such a project will tap into that market and hopefully earn additional revenue for the company.

According to Mercedes-Benz India Sales and Marketing Director Debashis Mitra, they are now looking to introduce even more models in vacant slots on their market segmentation maps, after having launched 16 models since the start of the year. The new models would include Mercedes-Benz’s premium sports utility and high-performance vehicles.

Mitra sees the premium car segment to overtake the region’s overall car market sales for 2010. He predicts around 50 percent of growth, as compared to a 20 percent growth that is expected for the standard car segment. Premium car sales should reach around 13,000 vehicles, as compared to last year’s 8,500 units sold.

The SL63 AMG is something you won’t want to keep your hands from. That is exactly the case with the boys down at Inden Design who have decided to create a high-performance wide body tuning kit for the hardtop roadster. And guess what? They’ve already put a price tag on it—19,000 euros in its most basic form.

Optional additions include a €3,500 bonnet, an €800 carbon fiber rear diffuser, and a €999 apron for the front. Labor would cost you around €8,000, while another €7,500 is needed to get your car a lacquer finish. Add all that up and you get to around €38,000 total.

It doesn’t end there, though. If you want something a little bit more special, you can dish out another €13,200 and they’ll throw in 20-inch deep dish alloys, wrapped in 275/30 R20 and 325/25 R20 Dunlops front and rear respectively. €900 would get you a rear parking camera plus another €1,500 if you want it to ride lower than very low. At €420 you’ll have daytime running lights while a sports exhaust system is available for €1,200.

Sounds a lot but if you round it all up, you get one hell of an SL63 that can pull anywhere between 518 to 560 horsepower. The power kit you’ll need to get those figures will cost you some more, though. But the pricetag on that kit hasn’t been revealed yet. So, you interested?

Next-gen Mercedes A-Class To Borrow Design from Both Concept Fascination and F800 Showcars

00 conceptfascparis 597x396 Next gen Mercedes A Class To Borrow Design from Both Concept Fascination and F800 ShowcarsThings are looking good for the much sensationalized Mercedes-Benz A-Class. While majority of the motoring world have been drawn back since the Silver Arrow announced that they would be modifying its compact segment entry, there are reports that the German carmaker is planning to associate design cues from a few of its more prominent concepts into the look of the new pint sizer. Based on the Detroit Bureau, the A-Class will be based from both the F800 and Concept Fascination prototypes. Though it is not confirmed whether that means that the final product would be released in both four door and hatchback or if the actual car would be a fusion of the two. Either way, the vehicle is expected to be good in every way.

The Concept Fascination Prototype was revealed to the public back in 2008 and immediately roused the interest of some of its followers. Having a long and arching roof line with an aggressive rear flanks, the vehicle looked more fit for the wagon world. Recently, the F800 was showcased at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, having a corporate nose that is much common with majority of the Mercedes-Benz line. Combine the two, shrink it up a bit and you would probably have an idea of what the anticipated A-Class would be like.
