Iran Benz Daimler AG turned off by Irans nuclear policy
Burning social bridges is never a good thing. You need a large social network to keep your business growing. But in Daimler AG’s case, sometimes you have to do what’s right in order to protect mankind.

Quite recently, Daimler AG severed much of its ties with Iran in support of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to back up U.S. President Barack Obama’s move to penalize Iran after a nuclear security summit was held in Washington.

The move, which was also supported by fellow German companies Siemens, Munich Re and Allianz, is aimed at boycotting the Iranian government in Tehran amidst their nuclear policies.

According to Daimler AG CEO Dr. Dieter Zetsche, they will not be totally abandoning the country. The company will still honor existing contracts and provide support to their loyal Iranian customers. They will, however, cease to supply parts to the Middle East’s largest automaker, Iran Khodro, which manufactures local Mercedes-Benz E-Class models.

Daimler AG also plans to liquidate a 30-percent share in an Iranian engine builder, as well as halt any and all exports of cars and trucks pass the Iranian border. Figuratively speaking, Iran contributed less than a thousandth of their $107.9 billion revenue in 2009.
