Mercedes-Benz to build Hybrid R&D center in Michigan

Earlier this week, Mercedes-Benz has reported that they will be expanding their hybrid technologies by building an R&D center in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The focus of the operation, called The Mercedes-Benz Engineering Center for Powertrains USA, will be developing hybrid transmissions, electric motor technology, software, and power electronics.

Mercedes-Benz is looking at a 65,000 square-foot facility, which should house the R&D center and employ 223 new workers in the coming 10 years. It’s an investment worth nearly $10 million. California and South Carolina were also considered for the R&D center, but it seems Michigan gave them the best tax break, nearly $7.5 million over the next ten years.
