Daimler achieved EBIT (Earnings before Interest and Taxes) of 648 million Euro in the third quarter of 2008 compared to 1,891 million Euro in Q3 of 2007. The decline in EBIT is primarily the result of lower earnings at the Mercedes-Benz Cars division. There were positive effects, however, from improved earnings at the Daimler Trucks division as well as at the Mercedes-Benz Vans and Daimler Buses units.

The profit contribution from Daimler Financial Services was also above the prior-year level. Net profit amounted to 213 million Euro (Q3 2007: net loss of EUR 1,533 million).
