Lewis Hamilton and the McLaren Mercedes team were unable to overturn the penalty that was imposed by the stewards at Spa, which lead Hamilton to finish third. His arguments and those of McLaren were thrown out without even passing judgment on the detail if Hamilton drove fairly or not. The stewards in Belgium had imposed a “drive-through” penalty on Hamilton for gaining an advantage by cutting a chicane. The five judges at FIA International Court of Appeal hearing in Paris made it clear that this type of penalty, even applied retrospectively, cannot be appealed against. Well how about launching a process where these kinds of appeals CAN be appealed to – this is ridiculous.
