I’ve received some interesting news about the SLR convertible that I wrote about yesterday from what seems to be a comapany “insider”.
Similar to what other sources have reported, the SLR will have a high quality soft top instead of a folding hard top and carbon fiber body panels that will certainly give the car an even sportier look. It seems that the convertaible will have 617 HP that should be on par with the coupe model.
The interesting news is that the SLR will KEEP the butterfly doors that the coupe version had. Some are doubting that it can be done with a convertaible, but let us wait and see what the guy come up with, it certainly is possible.

For those who still doubt about the butterfly doors, how do you think the engineers did it on the Vision SLR Roadster ? Even some tuners managed to make it on the SL.

As you know, as an insider, I can’t use my personal e-mail to not compromise my career in this fantastic company and also, I’m just too lazy to open an new e-mail account that I seldom use. I choosed to post comments and give infos on this website by convenience as the other ones require registration. As a car fan, I understand that people who read your webpages are thirsty of informations which fascinate them, that’s why I try to help a bit.
Don’t worry, I will continue to release news like I’m doing now, bit by bit (in order to not compromise the development programs of DC as there are professional spies from BMW and Audi who read those informations to steal ideas). In respect to the company I work for and to my colleagues who work very hard to give birth to fascinating products, I will keep quiet on very sensitive subjects.
Whenever you get any news that you’re not too sure, I’ll let you know whether it’s true or not. In a popular car magazine, I’ve seen a computer generated image of the 2009 SL. They are right about the lights which look like the ones from CLS, but the front spoiler and the hood are wrong.
The side air-inlets will be differents also. Ok, that’s the news of the day, ha ha ha.

Natürlich verstehe ich wie du dich fühlst, und was für ein Risiko du mimst um uns ein bisschen zu informieren. Ich habe dich um eine email gefragt weil ich dachte das mich jemand vielleicht verarschen will, aber da du dich schon ein paar mal gemeldet hast und das gleich behauptet hast, habe ich das gefühlt gekriegt dass du ernst bist und das du dich auskennst.
Was auch immer du mir und den leuten sagen kannst ist in Ordnung. Ich auch aufpassen das ich nicht irgendwelche Betriebsgeheimnisse and die Öffentlichkeit herauskommen. So natürlich möchte ich nicht Informationen das sehr geheim ist, aber dinge die man leicht von der Außenwelt herausfinden kann. aber noch niemand weiß (Ich hoffe du verstehst was ich meine)
Kannst du mir vielleicht sagen welche Computer Illustration du meinst, es gibt verschiedene die fast täglich rauskommen.

About these 3 illustrations, the closest to the 2008 model would be the 2nd and 3rd one. The 1st one, the headlamps are totally wrong and the rest is just from the current model. On the 2nd the headlamps are almost right, just that there is only one chromed lovre on the radiator grill holding the star (a bit like on the 3rd picture). This radiator grill will be larger than the current one. The foglamps are not like on the 2nd picture, they will be just normal round ones. On the side, the air-inlets will have a new design, I’d say that it would look a bit like a shark (see picture 3). One of the big change will be also the hood (none of the picture has it), it will have 2 powerdomes like the 1st gen SLK. This will be the biggest facelift ever ! As new optional equipment, there will be the airscarf. The AMG version will be even more impressive with a different design ! I guess that the trend for AMG is that the cars will be different than the normal Mercedes+AMG bodykit. That help the real AMG owners to differenciate themselves and will give them more individuality which is good I think.
