Yahoo has a short article about the upcoming Smart Fortwo expected to hit the states in early ’08. What I am confused about is that they have revealed the US sales price. I’ve been following the Smart car and all the news associated with it for a while now, and as far as I know DCX has not released the US price yet. It looks like Road & Track has somehow found out the price for the upcoming Smart car. They say that the basis model with optional air conditioning starts at $11,000; the better-equipped Passion will cost $13,000 and the Convertible will be $15,000.
The starting price is definitively appropriate for the car in the US market due to high competition from the Korean and Japanese. Let’s just see if the consumers will agree with this, as they are the one’s who will decide. Judging at how people have imported the cars from Canada and other locations for as much as $20K, this car will certainly appeal to the urban areas where parking is hard to find.

how do i get one?
I would love to know how I could get one now.
WindyCitySmartCar.com is how you get one now.
Why is it so much in cost when in germany they run about 4thousand?
@C.R.
In Germany they will be sold for about 12.500 Euros, which if you take the currency exchange into consideration turns out to be about $16.268. Now I am not sure how you got to 4k, but I can assure you it is not that cheap.
But please tell us true. Will U.S. dealers price gouge by adding another $5,000 to the price. Initial popularity is expensive.
Bought an 09 early in the season and love the car! Paddles allow great control in snow. We use it for all local and short hiway trips…averaging 45mi to gallon believe it or not!
