Mercedes SLR Convertible?
Muamer Hodzic February 21, 2007
Here is something I am sure everybody already knows about. The story became popular over the weekend and at a time I wasn’t even able to walk. It is rumored that Mercedes has planned to build a convertible SLR sometime in the future, no other real detail of course about this car. The engine will probably not be changed, so either the 650hp 722 or the 626hp SLR engine will power the cabrio. P-shop looks good to me, but I am not sure if the convertible is necessary.

Interesting. How much do you think it will cost?
I am sure it will be more expensive than the current one, so about $400k. Like I said above, I don’t see the point with this car.
What do you mean when you say you don’t see the point?
What I mean is that a convertible is not necessary for such a car. I know that most of the competition (Ferrari, Lamborghini, and others) have convertibles, but most of the time, the convertible doesn’t perform as good as the covered version due to different factors like stability and drag coefficient. For someone looking for design and beauty, a convertible SLR would be fine, so if they are going after that than they should build it, but if they think that a convertible will perform better, than that is not a good idea in my opinion. What they are basically planning on doing is stretching the SLR brand for another couple of years so that it doesn’t get old to people, while probably working on its successor.
The SLR convertible is powered with a 626hp engine and has a soft top. The interior looks a bit like the 722 though.
